It does take a lot of hard work to be a lawyer. Law school is tough going and getting the qualification is definitely not guaranteed. However, there are many pluses to being a lawyer.
Money can be a big motivation for a lot of people and there is no doubt that lawyers get paid well. However, this is the case with other jobs as well, lawyers are not the only well paid people. Many people do think their hourly rate looks attractive, but it is important to realise that what they charge customers is not what they get in salary, they have many expenses to pay before they see any money.
Being a lawyer means that you are providing a service. You are helping people to get something that they deserve. What exactly this is will depend on the type of lawyer you are but it could be getting a fair divorce settlement, compensation after an injury or settling disputes. This can be extremely rewarding if you can manage to get good results, although there will always be cases when things do not go your way.
It is a job that many people look up to and this can be rather nice. However, it is hard work as you have to stay ahead of all the latest court decisions in case you need to use those as evidence for your own cases. You also need to be aware of any changes in the law.
So there are some really good reasons to become a lawyer, but also some drawbacks as well. As with most well paid jobs, it is hard work and so although some hours will be well paid, there will be a lot of study and research that will be unpaid, so you ave to decide if it is for you.
